Stuart Greenbaum

Stuart Greenbaum (1966) is an Australian composer and teacher.

Born in Melbourne in 1966, Stuart studied composition under Brenton Broadstock and Barry Conyngham at the University of Melbourne, graduating with a BMus (Hons) and MMus. In 2000 he gained a PhD in composition, and now works full-time as a freelance composer.

Stuart has been working as a professional composer for over ten years. His varied output includes over eighty works written for the concert and theatre stage. Influences extend from pop music to the work of the minimalist composers, and his work also exhibits a strong inclination towards the modally-based chromaticism of late-romantic harmony – he tends to create music stemming from somewhere between the worlds of minimalism, pop, and the romantic symphonic tradition.

Stuart’s music has been performed throughout Australia by ABC orchestras, by the Song Company (Sydney Opera House), the Oxford Philharmonia, the Arcadian Singers and Spitalfields Market Opera (United Kingdom), and the Pacific Ocean Symphony Orchestra (Vladivostok, Russia).
