James Ledger

James Ledger (19--) is a freelance Australian composer.

James Ledger began his musical career playing keyboards in various bands in Perth during the late 1980s. He developed an interest in composing music and later graduated in performance (french horn) from the Western Australian Conservatorium of Music.

After graduating, he moved to England where, returning to composition, he wrote and arranged music for theatre, film and television in addition to concert music.

James Ledger's music has been performed in Australia and overseas. His orchestral music has been performed by the Adelaide, Sydney, Tasmanian and West Australian Symphony Orchestras. Many of his works have found their inspiration and titles from Australian settings, historical events or icons, including the orchestral works Air Man (a tribute to Australian aviator, Sir Charles Kingsford Smith) and Indian Pacific.

Swamp Music, for French horn, percussion and digital effects, won the 1998 Composition Contest of the International Horn Society. In 2000, choreographed versions of his orchestral music were presented by the West Australian Ballet together with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.

In 2001 he wrote the score for a locally produced film as well as a new work for the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra as part of Australia's Centenary of Federation celebrations.
